It Takes a Million.
The American Folk Festival is, literally and figuratively, a million-dollar operation. That's what it costs each year to cover all associated costs. Working with a three-person staff and hundreds of volunteers, fundraisers are dependent on the generosity of businesses, individuals and foundations.
2006 Revenue Sources:
- Corporate $463,775
- Earned Income $198,432
- Government $155,000
- Shortfall $79,670
- Grants & Foundations $43,000
- Individuals $38,473
Why support the Folk Festival?
Cultural growth of our citizens - regardless of age, financial means or education - is made possible by individual and corporate donations.
Produced by, financed by, and attended by Maine residents, the American Folk Festival is the most inclusive, most accessible community event in the state.
The Folk Festival brings the world to Bangor, and brings Bangor to the world.
The Festival is the largest celebration of traditional culture in Maine.
The Folk Festival has contributed substantially to the ongoing development of Bangor's waterfront - and for the community's vision for future development.
Each year, the Festival:
- Attracts more than 120,000 festival-goers to the Bangor Waterfront;
- Provides FREE admission to ALL attendees;
- Involves more than 750 area volunteers;
- Produces a regional economic impact of over $5 million;
- Presents the traditional arts of more than 20 cultures.
In order to continue to present this annual Festival, organizers must raise $1 million per year. Corporations, individuals, foundations, government, and earned income all contribute to this fundraising goal, and must continue to do so in order to continue to allow the Festival to showcase the finest traditional artists, and to present them at no fee to the attendee. Your tax-deductible gift- every donation - is a necessary and much appreciated piece of our Folk Festival.
Support the Festival today by making a donation online, or sending a donation to the American Folk Festival, 40 Harlow Street, Bangor ME 04401. The American Folk Festival is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, and donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
